What is a Heat Pump?

A Heat Pump is a device that uses a compressible refrigerant to transfer heat from one area to another with the capability of being reversible. In heating mode an air to air heat pump will take heat that exists naturally in the ambient air outside the home and move that heat to a coil inside your home where a fan then moves air over to transfer the heat into the building. In cooling mode the heat pump reverses that process and moves heat naturally in the air from inside the build to the coil outside the building where it cools off to keep the coil inside the building cold... This is called air conditioning. Heat Pumps can be installed in duct work, they can be ductless, or portable.

A Heat Pump is ideal in the Northwest because of our mild climate. Although a heat pump provides air conditioning, most people purchase a heat pump for the significant savings on their energy bill for heating. A heat pump will draw heat out of the outside air efficiently down to about 35 F degrees. HSPF (Heating Seasonal Performance Factor) is the rating used to determine the efficiency of heat pumps in heating mode. The majority of our heating season is mostly above 35 degrees, but when it does drop below that temperature the heat pump on most systems switch on an auxilary heat. How a typical air conditioner works with a furnace can be deminstrated in this interactive display.

Should I get a Heat Pump or an Air Conditioner?

Heat Pumps and Air Conditioners are almost identical when it comes to installation. They both have many of the same components that will have to be installed in much the same way. The biggest difference is that an Air Conditioner will not provide heat whereas a Heat Pump can save you money on your heating bill using the heat that is naturally in the outside air and also provide Air Conditioning. To most people when looking at the cost difference and the benefits of a Heat Pump vs. an Air Conditioner it makes sense to go with the Heat Pump option, but it is best to ask our Heating & Cooling Consultant to determine what would fit best for your home at the time of a free in home estimate.

Ductless Air Conditioners and Heat Pumps

Fujitsu Ductless Heat Pump & Air Conditioner                         LG Ductless Heat Pump & Air Conditioner                         Sanyo Ductless Heat Pump & Air Conditioner

Ductless Mini SplitDuctless Heat Pumps and Air Conditioners,  have been around for many years. They have been a very common way to provide space heating and air conditioning all over Asia. Day & Nite Plumbing & Heating have installed these energy efficient Ductless Heating & Cooling systems in many homes and businesses. A ductless Air Conditioner or Heat Pump work just like a normal air conditioner or heat pump in a ducted system. However these Air Conditioners and Heat Pumps use a smaller outdoor unit with indoor cassette(s) that provide affordable heating or cooling without ducting. The fact that they do not utilize a duct system greatly reduces the cost of providing an Air Conditioner or Heat Pump in a home or business that does not already have an existing duct system. So now homes and businesses that had little options for efficient heat or air conditioning now have an affordable solution. Places with boiler heating systems (hydronic heating), In-Floor Heating, Electric Baseboard heat, or Electric wall heaters are great examples of existing conditions that can now have air conditioning, and in the cases of electric heat to considerably lower heating bill by the use of a ductless heat pump.

Our Day & Nite Plumbing & Heating consultants are equipped to size Heat Pumps and Air Conditioners properly for your space. We also are Factory Certified for three different brands of ductless heat pumps; Sanyo, Fujitsu, and LG. This gives our Day & Nite Heating & Cooling Consultant the capability of finding the right brand that suits your home to qualify for rebates and makes us more than qualified as a certified dealer for the NW Ductless Heat Pump Project with the Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance. To find out if a Ductless Heat Pump is right for you call us for a free estimate.

Portable Air Conditioner or Heat Pump

Tili Portable Air Conditioner & Heat Pump

Tili Portable Air Conditioner & Heat PumpNeed to Beat the heat NOW? Don't worry our Heating & Cooling division can have a quality air conditioner installed in your home usually in one day. But if adding a whole house Air Conditioner or Heat Pump or a Ductless Air Conditioner or Heat Pump to your home is not something you wish to consider right now, a Portable Air Conditioner or Heat Pump would be a good alternative to beat the heat. Though they are limited in their capacity to cool down larger areas Portable A/C units are capable of maintaining a comfortable space out of a small to medium sized room.

The Tili Air Conditioner or Heat Pump units have a nice slim look. They are set on wheels so that they can easily be moved out of the way for storage during the cooler parts of the year. Tili uses a unique high-tech design that evaporates the condensate produced by air conditioning. This makes the Tili Portable Air Conditioner less of a hassle, so there is no need to periodically empty a condensate tank throughout the day or run a separate condensate line to pump condensation out with the exhaust through a nearby window. This system gives you comfort and peace of mind.

Although Portable Air Conditioners are a good solution for a single room for comfort, the down side is that portable air conditioners, like a window air conditioner, are more noisy than a conventional Heat Pump or Air Conditioning system in your duct work or a Ductless Heat Pump or Air Conditioner. Tili Portable Air Conditioner & Heat Pump RemotePortable Air Conditioners and Heat Pumps also have an Exhaust tube that does require access to an opening to the outside of the house, such as a window.

The Tili Portable Brand of Portable Air Conditioners and Heat Pumps are a great choice for their design in handling condensation, overall look, simple installation, and ease of use by either remote control or the interface on the Portable Air Conditioner or Heat Pump Unit. They are available for direct purchase from Day & Nite Plumbing & Heating or you can schedule one of our technicians from our HVAC division to come out to deliver and install the unit for you.
