Spring HVAC Checklist

Spring HVAC Checklist

A new season can bring new HVAC challenges. With the help of Day & Nite Plumbing and Heating, you can be ready. The way you use your HVAC equipment changes as the seasons change, so taking some extra time to prepare for the spring can make a big difference. Following our spring HVAC checklist is a great way to ensure that everything keeps running smoothly as the temperatures outside rise.

Change the Filters

A filter picks up a lot of dirt and grime when it's in all season. Once spring rolls around, put in a new filter and make sure that your home air quality doesn't take a nosedive. This simple step also helps your HVAC equipment run more efficiently, so you'll get to appreciate some lower utility bills.

Get a Professional Cleaning

Speaking of cleanliness, it can also be a good idea to have a pro come take a look at your HVAC system and give it a cleaning if needed. A cleaner system operates more efficiently and is actually a lot safer. Dirt, dust, and other buildup can cause expensive damage over time and a host of other problems. As an added bonus, if you're unable to change your filter for whatever reason, an HVAC pro can do it as a part of the cleaning process.

This step also includes a duct cleaning. All sorts of things can gather in your ductwork. A pro can clean it up and spot any potential problems, like mold growth, that you may not have known about.

Clean Up Outside

Don't just focus on cleaning inside this spring. Make sure you also take a look outside and spend some time cleaning up around the air conditioner. Plants or weeds can easily overtake outdoor equipment, so remove it and ensure that your equipment is working at peak performance. A good rule of thumb is to clear two feet around an outdoor unit. That will help maximize airflow.

Duct Sealing

Cooling a whole home during the spring and summer months isn't exactly cheap. So make sure that you're not losing any of that cold air because of holes and gaps in your ducts. Sealing and insulating ducts can greatly improve the efficiency of your heating and cooling equipment, while keeping your home far more comfortable.

Think About an Upgrade

The start of spring is also a great time to think about an upgrade for your HVAC system. New equipment might be more energy-efficient than your current setup. At the very least, you might want to upgrade to a smart thermostat. This new tech can help you reduce energy costs and it even lets you control the temperature of your house from your smartphone. You might be surprised at what else the newest technology has to offer.
